In this article, we would like to talk about an application that we can monitor the devices in the system with a low and medium budget, even if it is not as much as possible, and show the installation stages and sensor addition. The name of our software is PRTG Network Monitor. The software allows free use of up to 100 sensors. The incoming screen gives you both download link and temporary license information. You should note this information because we will enter this information during the installation.

When the application is downloaded, a file similar to the following will be downloaded. I’m not going to tell you step-by-step installation because it’s going with the Next Next logic. I will only mention what needs to be done in certain places.

During the installation process, you will be asked for an e-mail address. To delete the currently scanned systems, just point to the top of any group and right click the mouse to select Delete.

To add a new group in the Local Probe section, click the right mouse button to create a new group. If desired, a single device can be added as well. With our Add Group, we want to gather certain critical servers in a single section. In addition, when we do a group operation, we will use the credential to access the machines at once. Otherwise, if there is different admin authorized the user for each server, it will be enough to add one by one with Add Device.

As you can see here I give the test name as a group name. If this is the machines I will add to the Windows Windows credential part, the other systems fill the appropriate part. Usually this kind of applications with the authority of the admin, this application is created especially for a user with a great advantage will be given because if we create them with our own domain admin user password will need to re-enter all the passwords here.

To add devices to this group, it is enough to add Mouse right click add device on the test.

A name for the device (dc, exc, etc.) and the corresponding device’s IP address must be entered in the incoming screen. We’re going to say that in the group part I have defined credential and continue without doing anything else.

In general, the first thing that comes to mind when controlling server systems is the up-down status, memory, cpu and disk status. Here, PRTG offers us many opportunities. For example, I’ll add the Harddisk field status. Because there is no sensor for this, click the Add Sensor on the middle or Mouse right click Add Sensor on the server.

I can narrow down the sensor area I’m looking for when I select Windows with Disk Usage and Target System Type on the screen. Here I go to the next screen by selecting WMI Volume.

I specify which disk space I want to monitor on the incoming screen. I can choose both if I want. Select the disk space we want to continue with Continue.

When the addition is complete, our display will be as follows. If we want we can wait for a little if we want to come on the right sensor and we can say Check Now.

When the sensor information is received from the server, our display will become similar.

By definition, this sensor is scanned for 60 seconds. To change this period, simply go to Settings on the corresponding server and change the Scanning Interval value. Likewise, we can change the scanning time in the Group.

In Scanning Interval, you can select the desired time and Save.

If we want the system to send us an e-mail according to the threshold values ​​we have determined, the procedure is to define the users and mails under Setup / Account Settings / Notifications. According to the description herein, the alerts of a server can be sent to the IT, the service alerts of another server, the monitoring section, or e-mail to a private user. But since we’ve shown the basic settings here, we’ll just send us an e-mail before entering that section.

If the sensor does not reach 600 s (10 min) in default settings, it will send an e-mail to the manager.

I want to send us an e-mail when the disk size is equal to 30%, all we have to do is click Add Threshold Trigger and select the options that will allow us to send e-mails by entering the values ​​as follows. When you save it with Save, if the disk space drops to 30%, the system will send us an e-mail. If the disk space exceeds 30%, the system will still send us an e-mail because we wanted to send us an e-mail after the threshold value has been cleared.
