Touchpad For Desktop Pc

  1. Regardless if we are using them for business or entertainment, they offer something that desktop PCs don’t – mobility. Being a mobile PC means that apart from the keyboard it has a device for controlling the pointer – the touchpad.
  2. Synaptics TouchPad is the most common one among the Windows-based laptops, especially on the latest Windows 10, and for a very good reason. The reason is that Synaptics TouchPads will run out of the box. Well, almost out of the box.

I have a brand new Lenovo LAPTOP-A11TUN29 with Windows 10 Pro. I was searching for information on reversing the direction of the touchpad scrolling. I came across information on a thread here about updating drivers. After doing so and restarting my computer, the touchpad stopped working completely.

Also called a glide pad, glide point, pressure-sensitive tablet, or trackpad, a touchpad is an inputdevice on laptops and some keyboards. It allows the user to move a cursor with their finger. It can be used in place of an external mouse.

A touchpad is operated by using your finger and dragging it across the flat surface of the touchpad. As you move your finger on the surface, the mouse cursor moves in that same direction. Like most computer mice, the touchpad also has two buttons below the touch surface that allows you to left-click or right-click.

Note

Not all laptop touchpads have visible buttons as shown in the picture. However, the entire touchpad or the bottom section of the touchpad acts as a button when pressing down on the touchpad. Also, tapping the touchpad usually acts as a click.

How to scroll using the touchpad

How To Activate Touchpad Windows 10

Scrolling with a touchpad can be done using one of the following methods.

  • Place the mouse cursor on the vertical scroll bar on the right side of the program window, then press the left touchpad button. While continuing to press the left button, drag your finger downward on the touchpad to move the scrollbar down.
  • Most touchpads allow the user to place two fingers on the touchpad and drag them up or down to scroll.
  • Some touchpads have a vertical scroll area built-in on the left or right side. Moving your finger up and down in this section of the touchpad allows you to scroll.

Do I need to use the touchpad on my laptop?

No. All modern laptops have a USB port that allows you to connect the same type of mouse you use on a desktop computer to your laptop. If you don't like using the touchpad, we recommend connecting a USB mouse to the laptop.

The touchpad on a laptop is a convenient way to add the functionality of a mouse without needing an extra peripheral. Most users find themselves in situations where they would like the touchpad on (e.g., no external mouse) or off (e.g., accidentally moving the mouse cursor with their palm while typing). The exact steps may differ slightly, depending on the laptop's manufacturer, so you may need to use some intuition to achieve your desired outcome.

Steps to try first

TouchPad Button: Some laptops have a button near the top of the touchpad that allows you to quickly enable and disable it. You can toggle the touchpad off and on by using that button.

TouchPad Fn keys: Some laptops have an Fn key that, in combination with one of the F1 - F12 function keys, can enable and disable the touchpad. To toggle the touchpad off and on, press both of these keys at the same time.

Tip

The icon associated with toggling the touchpad is often indicated by a rectangle with a line under it. It may also have a pointing finger or a circle near or over a rectangle.
